This isn’t the kind of thing I do every day so I’m stupidly excited and wanted to share with everyone. Right now, I’m sitting in my room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel getting ready to head to a day full of Disney goodness, including a chance to interview the voice of The Little Mermaid, Jodi Benson!
Once upon a time, I worked as a manager at The Disney Store. This was back in 1989 when the movie first hit theaters and it holds a special place in my heart. It was what made me well and truly fall in love with animation, Disney as a company, and Walt Disney as a creative visionary.
A chance to attend the red carpet premiere of Planes and experience all sorts of The Little Mermaid activities to promote the film’s upcoming Blu-ray release in October is nothing short of a fangirl’s dream. I arrived yesterday and things started off with a wonderful The Little Mermaid themed dinner where we also got to see the great new products coming out to support the movie.
They had a silk-screening station where we could get cute shirts for our kids – or us. We also got goodie bags that included a roll-on perfume from Sephora’s The Ariel Collection. Yes, of course I’m wearing it right now because it’s lovely and I’m meeting the actual Little Mermaid, so what better perfume could I wear?
In addition to interviewing Jodi Benson, we will also get the chance to speak with Ron Clements and John Musker, both writer/directors of The Little Mermaid. Really, giddy does not even begin to describe how excited I am right now.
All this is followed by tonight’s red carpet premiere of Planes. Seeing the movie was high on my list even before I got this opportunity, but getting to see the whole red carpet thing, Disney-style is going to be amazing.
I’ll be tweeting about this @NicoleWakelin and posting tons of pictures on my Total Fan Girl facebook page for you fellow Disneyphiles. You can also check out the action on the official @GeekMomBlog twitter and expect lots of posts here when I return to reality.

Disney has provided this trip in order for me to cover this event. All opinions are my own. Especially the inevitable fangirl squees.
